Mala Dixit,  New Delhi. Sub-inspector Krishna Kumar Sharma (KK Sharma), arrested on charges of whistle-blowing in the murder of eight police personnel, has approached the Supreme Court. Jailed Sharma has filed a plea seeking protection to life and posing a threat to life and handing over the investigation of July 3 encounter case to SIT or CBI. KK Sharma is currently lodged in Mati Jail in Kanpur Dehat. He has requested the court to direct that whatever inquiries the police have to make to him should be done in Mati Jail. He has filed the petition through his wife.

On the night of 2-3 July in Bikaru village of Kanpur Nagar, the police team which was caught by the dreaded criminal Vikas Dubey was attacked by miscreants and eight policemen were killed in that encounter. Sub Inspector KK Sharma has been arrested and sent to jail on charges of informing the police about the arrival of police in this encounter. Sharma, lodged in the Mati jail in Kanpur countryside, in an encounter by the SIT and other teams of the UP police formed to apprehend the miscreants after the incident, one by one, five of Vikas and then fleeing after catching Vikas. The incidents of killing have also been questioned.

It has been said in the petition that after seeing these incidents of encounter, it seems that the guard of law, UP police, does not believe in the law. In such a situation, he is also in danger of his life. The court should protect and give protection to its constitutional rights. The court should order that whatever inquiry is to be done, it should be done in Mati Jail, where it is currently lodged.

The petition also said that in view of the UP Police’s attitude of catching Vikas and his five associates and then being killed in an encounter, he feared a fair probe into the July 3 encounter incident. It has also been said that only eight UP police officers have been killed in that encounter, so the investigation of that case should be handed over to the SIT or CBI under the supervision of the Supreme Court. In the petition, the Central Government, Uttar Pradesh Government, SSP Kanpur and CBI have been made defendants.

Even before the death of Vikas Dubey, a petition was also filed in the Supreme Court, fearing his encounter. The petition sought to order an inquiry into the death of five of his associates in an encounter with the UP police. The petitioner also demanded that the case be investigated by the CBI.

Advocate and petitioner Ghanshyam Upadhyay had filed the petition on Thursday seeking immediate hearing in the case. The petition said that it is the job of the competent court to punish the accused after the conviction. The police have no right to punish the accused by killing them in the name of an encounter before the crime is proved. Not only this, the petitioner also requested the apex court to direct the registration of FIR in the case of breaking of Vikas Dubey’s house, shopping mall and vehicles.

During the encounter, in-charge Vinay Tiwari and the in-charge KK Sharma have been suspended for doing the alleged informations for the History Sheeter on charges of risking the lives of the police team through encounter. Due to suspicion of development, action has been taken on the entire police station of Chaubepur. A total of 68 police personnel have been lined up. According to sources, many more policemen are on the radar. It is said that mobile numbers of about 200 policemen of Choubepur, Shivrajpur, Bilhaur, Kakwan police station of Bilhor Circle and Shivli police station in Kanpur Dehat are still under surveillance.
