The Ministry of Transport is fully alert regarding the safety of vehicles and new rules are being made one after the other. Also, for strict enforcement of these rules, those who break the rules have to pay heavy fines. At present, two similar rules regarding security can be implemented from October 1, 2022. These include 6 airbags in all vehicles and new battery norms in electric two-wheelers. So let’s know about these rules coming to avoid heavy fines.
6 airbags rule
For a long time, there has been talk of installing 6 airbags in all vehicles to enhance the safety. For this, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari had talked about bringing this new rule in the Lok Sabha last year. Along with this, vehicle manufacturers have also been urged to make such vehicles. According to his earlier statement, this rule can be made mandatory for all new vehicles from October 1, 2022.
According to the draft notification issued earlier, 6 airbags will be mandatory in all cars with a seating capacity of 8 passengers and weighing less than 3.5 tonnes (ie M1 category vehicles). With this, the prices of vehicles will increase by Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000. At the same time, what will be the amount of fine for ignoring the rule has not been disclosed at the moment.
EV Battery Safety Norms
The Ministry of Transport is also going to introduce new battery safety norms from October 1 to reduce the incidence of fire in electric two-wheelers. The updated AIS 156 and AIS 038 Rev.2 standards will be made mandatory for electric vehicles from 1 October 2022. Draft notification has already been issued for this.
These updates include additional protection in cases such as thermal expansion due to fire due to internal cell short circuit, battery cell, battery management system, on-board charger, design of the battery pack, etc.
