US Visa Changes For Indians: If you are thinking of getting a US visa, then there is an important news for you. Many new rules are going to be implemented in the visa process in the coming months.
Now, from passport collection to interview and new fees, everything will not be the same as before. Many big things related to the visa process are going to change. These new rules will have a direct impact on Indian visa applicants.
So if you are going to apply for a visa soon, then before preparing to get the US visa, you must know about some new changes.
Now you will have to get your passport yourself
From 1 August 2025, you will have to collect your passport in person or choose a paid delivery service. Now the facility of passport collection by a third person will be discontinued. Parents can collect passports for minor applicants, but for this an authority letter signed by both parents will be required. Email or scanned copy will not be valid.
Passport delivery service started
The US Embassy has now started the option of home or office delivery. For this, every applicant will have to pay Rs 1,200 extra. You can change your delivery preference by visiting ustraveldocs.com.
New Visa Integrity Fee implemented
A new charge has been added under the “One Big Beautiful Bill” passed in the US Congress. From October 1, 2025, an extra charge of $250 will have to be paid for most non-immigrant visas. This charge has been imposed to strengthen the visa process and security system. However, applicants who follow the visa rules may get the option of getting a refund in the future.
Changes to the Interview Waiver Program
From September 2, 2025, the Interview Waiver Program i.e. Dropbox facility will be limited. Now most applicants with H, L, F, M, J, E and O visa categories will have to give in-person interviews. Earlier, children below 14 years of age and those above 79 years of age were exempted, but now this exemption has also been abolished.
Which visa categories will not be affected?
Some categories will remain interview-free as before. These include A-1 and A-2 visas, some C-3 visas, G-1 to G-4 visas, NATO-1 to NATO-6 visas, and TECRO E-1 visas.
There is no change in these processes
As before, the validity of visa fees will still remain 365 days. The appointment booking process is also the same as before and there is no change in the list of documents.
What to do if the appointment is cancelled?
If your Dropbox Appointment for August or September 2025 is cancelled, you will need to log in to your Visa profile and make a new appointment. The MRV receipt will remain valid as before and you will get another chance to schedule.
Let us tell you that all these changes are very important for Indian visa applicants. From passport collection to interview and new fees, it is important to take care of every rule so that your visa process can be completed without any interruption.
