Wrong UPI Payment: Wrong money transferred through UPI? Know the method here

UPI Wrong Payment: Many times we need to transfer money through UPI only through mobile number. There is a possibility of error in doing so. If even one of the 10 digits of the mobile goes wrong then the money reaches someone else’s bank account.

The use of UPI to transfer money is continuously increasing. Mostly we transfer money to our friends or relatives through payment apps. There is no scope for error in this, because for this we use the phone number included in the contact list of our phone. Sometimes we have to pay money to someone whose number is not saved in our contact list. Payment apps provide the facility to transfer money only through mobile number. Through this, money is transferred but there is risk in it.

If even one digit is wrong, the money will go to someone else’s account.

There may be a mistake in entering 10 digits of the mobile number to transfer money. If any one of the 10 digits of the mobile number is wrong, it means that the money will reach someone else’s account. Since you do not know the person the problem increases. You can call that person and request for the money to be returned. If that person returns the money to you, then your tension ends. What if the person refuses to return the money or does not answer your call?

Notify your bank about incorrect transfers as soon as possible

Experts say that in such a case you should not delay at all. You should inform your bank about this soon. The bank may ask you to produce proof that you have inadvertently transferred the money to the wrong number. If the bank is confident that you have done this unknowingly, it can start the process to reverse your money.

You can also complain on NPCI website

Another way is that you can lodge a complaint on the NPCI website. For this you have to go to NPCI’s grievance redressal website (https://www.npci.org.in/what-we-do/upi/dispute-redressal-mechanism). On this you will have to click on the complaint box. After that you will see a drop down menu. In this you will have to select ‘Person to Person’ in the transaction type. In the issue you have to select ‘Incorrectly transferred to another account’. After entering complete details your complaint will be registered.
