UPI New Rules: From today you are going to see a slight change in the UPI experience. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has made some changes to reduce the extra load on the system and make UPI payments faster. In such a situation, if you use apps like PhonePe, Google Pay or Paytm, then you must know about these 5 updates. Let’s know…

Limit in checking account balance

From today you can check your account balance only 50 times a day on each UPI app. This calculation is done in a period of 24 hours and includes only those balance requests that you make directly. Apart from this, UPI apps can no longer check the balance automatically in the background.

Changes in Auto Pay

The auto-payment system that handles payments like EMI or OTT subscriptions will now work only during non-peak times. This means it will make payments only before 10 am or after 9:30 pm. Actually this is being done so that there is no heavy load on the system during the busiest time.

Limited access

Now every user will have a limit of 25 times every day to view the list of bank accounts linked to their mobile number through UPI. This will be possible only when you select your bank in the app.

Limit for failed auto-debits

The system will now allow only 1 main try and 3 retries for every auto-debit, that is, you will get a total of 4 chances to complete the payment related to a mandate.

Why were these changes made in UPI?

The pressure on the system is increasing due to about 16 billion UPI transactions every month. In the months of April and May, users faced many problems in UPI service. According to NPCI, a large part of these problems arise from excessive traffic caused by frequent API requests. Frequent activities put unnecessary load on the UPI infrastructure, which needed strict control.
