Many travelers do not even know about this. In this offer given by IRCTC, the passenger will have to take care while booking the ticket. If you book tickets with debit card, then you will have to pay zero transaction charges. If you book tickets through debit card from IRCTC website or app, then you will not have to pay any transaction fee on ticket booking.

Transaction fees from other apps

According to the IRCTC website, if you pay for the online ticket through other means like net banking, e-wallet and cash card, then you will have to pay a transaction charge on it. Let us tell you that for booking tickets online through IRCTC’s website or app, you have to pay a fixed transaction charge, but if you book tickets with a debit card, then you will get a cheaper ticket.

Transaction charge even on payment through e-wallet

For booking tickets through net banking of most banks, Rs 10 plus tax is charged on each transaction. Similarly, a transaction charge and tax of 1.8 per cent is levied on payment of tickets through payment gateways and credit cards. If you pay through e-wallet, then this amount is payable separately according to the e-wallet company. Like Amazon, Paytm, these companies also charge separately on each transaction.

What was the rule before?

According to IRCTC website, earlier transaction charges were levied on debit cards of PNB, Indian Bank, Union Bank of India, Andhra Bank and Central Bank of India. At the same time, this charge was not levied on payment by debit card of some banks. But later IRCTC terminated the transaction on Rupay debit card.
