Now the government is going to make all the highway toll booths free in the coming time. That is, there will be no toll booth on any highway. However, even after this, toll tax will continue to be levied as before, but another method will be adopted for this.

New Delhi. After the introduction of FASTag system, it proved to be very helpful for the drivers. With automatic toll fee reduction, vehicles no longer need to stand in long lines. Also, it saves both money and time. Now the government is going to make all the highway toll booths free in the coming time. That is, there will be no toll booth on any highway.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said in a recent interview to The Indian Express that the government is working to remove toll plazas from national highways in the coming days. However, even after this, toll tax will continue to be levied as before, but another method will be adopted for this.

In this way toll tax will be deducted

The Union Minister said that in the coming times, cameras will be installed in the toll plazas on the highways and national highways in their place. These cameras will capture the number plate of each vehicle passing through the highway. After this, the toll tax will be automatically deducted from the bank account linked to the number plate. A pilot project is also going on in this regard.

Law can be brought against those who do not pay toll

Gadkari said that after the implementation of this system, there will be a need to install company-fitted number plates on the vehicles. Gadkari said, “There is no provision in the law to penalize the vehicle owner who does not pay toll tax in the country. We need to bring that provision within the ambit of law. We can bring a new provision for this, those who do not have these number plates. We have to bring a bill for this.”

FASTag also improved the situation

Toll reduction through number plate-detecting cameras will make traveling on the highway much faster. However, even after the implementation of FASTag, there has been an improvement to a great extent. FASTag is mandatory for all vehicles. Without this, any vehicle has to pay double the toll tax at toll plazas on national highways.
