The biggest tension is regarding toll tax as soon as you step out on the road. Don’t go a little distance, a huge amount has to be paid as toll tax. Toll tax has to be paid thrice in the journey from Delhi to Lucknow. The first is on the Jaypee Expressway between Greater Noida and Agra, followed by a toll tax at Agra.

Then a tax of Rs 600 has to be paid for the 302 km long expressway from Agra to Lucknow. But there are at least 25 categories from which toll tax is not levied. Apart from MPs, MLAs, all government employees are also included in this. While toll tax is not taken even from vehicles carrying dead bodies.

Toll Tax Separate fee for each vehicle-

Separate fees are charged for each vehicle. For example, more tax is charged for bus and truck, while there is less tax for car. In such a situation, clever people are doing scam by putting fastags of small vehicles on big vehicles. Double charge is levied if fastag is not installed.

Toll Tax Free is not charged from 25 categories of vehicles-

At present, toll tax is being collected on almost all the expressways and highways of the country. But according to the rules of the Central Government, at present no toll tax is collected from 25 types of vehicles. Till about a decade ago only 9 categories of vehicles were exempted from toll tax which has now increased to 25.

They have got exemption from Toll Tax-

The vehicles from which toll tax is not charged include the names of big officers including President, Vice President, Prime Minister, Ministers to MPs and Judges and Magistrates. Officials of various ministries do not pay toll tax even during private travel.

Apart from this, officers of various departments of Defence, Police, Fire Fighting, Ambulance, Hearse Van, Selected State and Central Government Officers, Magistrates, Secretaries, Secretaries of National Highways Authority are included. State governments have their own list of exempted people.

Fastag in India mandatory from 15 February 2021-

From February 15, 2021, the central government had made FASTag mandatory on toll plazas across the country. But many such cases have come to the fore in UP in which people are leaving the toll plaza by putting fastags of small vehicles on big vehicles. Due to this the government is facing a big loss. Apart from this, reports of crossing the toll without paying the toll tax are common.

This is how disturbances happen in Fastag-

To cross the toll, people are leaving big vehicles by putting fastags of small vehicles. Due to which the government has to bear the loss of lakhs of rupees.

In the investigation of the officials of the National Highway Authority of India (NHI), it was found that the vehicle crossing the toll was another and the FASTag was attached to someone else. In such a situation, tax of about Rs.300 to Rs.500 is evaded. Due to which the government has to bear the loss of revenue of lakhs of rupees.
