New Delhi:The government is considering new technologies to change the toll plazas in the country. The new system will be introduced in the next six months. Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari gave this information in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. Replying to supplementary questions during Question Hour in Rajya Sabha, the Transport Minister said that toll plazas have created many problems like traffic jams and long queues, which the government wants to eliminate. Gadkari was answering questions from members on the issue of toll plazas not being as per law within 60 kms in the same direction.
He said the government is now exploring two options – satellite-based toll system where a car will have GPS and toll will be deducted directly from the passenger’s bank account, and the other option is through number plates. He said, ‘We are in the process of replacing FASTag with GPS while using satellite, and based on that we want to take toll. Technology is also available on number plates and good technology is available in India.
Gadkari said that “we will choose the technology. Though we have not taken an official decision, but in my view there will be no toll plaza on number plate technology and there will be a sophisticated computerized digital system. Through this we can give relief. No queues.” It will not happen and people will get big relief.”
He said that, however, we need to bring a bill in Parliament for this because if someone is not paying toll then there is no law available yet to punish them.
Gadkari said that they are in the process of selecting the best technology for toll collection and will also bring an important law in Parliament.
When asked about the new system, he said, “Within six months I will try my level best to start it, as it is the need of the hour. It will help the people of the country and get rid of the traffic problem.” important to.”
Gadkari said that the number plate has been brought with new technology. It is mandatory for the vehicle manufacturer to install a new number plate. It will have a computerized system by which one can collect toll using the new software.
He said that a car plying on tolled highways will have to pay toll for the exact time and only that time will be deducted from the toll account.
He told the House that, “As far as the selection of technology is concerned, we have not made up our mind. But as soon as possible and within a month, we will select the technology and we will use all the sophisticated technology of the world which is available to the people. Then there will be no queue and there will be no traffic problem. He said, we will find a solution to the problem of toll plaza at the earliest.
Gadkari also told that after the introduction of FASTag, the toll revenue has increased by Rs 120 crore in a day. He said that so far 5.56 crore FASTag have been issued and its reach is 96.6 percent.
