Taxpayers’ Charter: What is Taxpayers Charter, What will be the Benefit to Taxpayers

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched the “Transparent Taxation, Honoring the Honor” platform in honor of honest taxpayers. The platform includes major reforms such as Faceless Assessment, Faceless Appeal and Taxpayers Charter. Modi government has implemented Taxpayers Charter from today. According to the Finance Ministry, this shows the commitment of the IT department to improve taxpayer services and make themselves accountable. In this, the rights and responsibilities of the taxpayers have been clearly expressed and their expectations have also been told to them.

Income tax department will follow these things


According to the Taxpayers Charter, the Income Tax Department is committed to these tasks-

The department will provide fast, courteous and professional assistance in all work with the taxpayers.
The Income Tax Department will treat every taxpayer as honest, as long as there is reason to believe something else.
The department will also provide a review system with fair and correct appeals.



The department will provide accurate information to fulfill its obligations to comply under the law.
The department will take a decision in every income tax proceeding within the time given under the law.
The department will deposit the amount given under the law.
The department will fully follow the procedure of law and will not interfere excessively in any investigation, investigation and enforcement proceedings.
The department will not disclose any information given by the taxpayer, unless certified by law.
The department will consider its authority responsible for its action.
The department will allow every taxpayer to have representatives for his election.
The department will provide the taxpayer the facility to lodge the complaint and soon to settle it.



The department will provide a fair and impartial system and will resolve the tax related issues in a time bound manner.
The department will publish the standard in a timely manner for delivery of the service.
The department will take into consideration the cost of observing the tax law at the time of its implementation.
Taxpayer Responsibilities
Income tax holds these expectations from taxpayers:




The taxpayer is expected to disclose complete information with honesty and fulfill its compliance responsibility.
It is expected that he is aware of his compliance obligations under the law and if necessary he should seek the help of the department.
He should keep accurate records as per law.
Let him know what information and submissions his representative has given.
He should submit in a time bound manner as per tax law.
He should pay the amount on time as per law.

PM Modi said on the Taxpayers Charter that this is a big step in the country’s development journey. Now the taxpayer has been assured of fair, courteous and rational behavior. That is, the income tax department now has to take care of the dignity of the taxpayer sensitively. Now the taxpayer will have to believe it, the department cannot look at it with suspicion without any basis.
