Tax Audit Date Extension: There’s good news for taxpayers who are filing their income tax reports. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has officially extended the deadline for filing tax reports by one month. Due to floods, landslides, technical glitches, and compliance challenges, many taxpayers were unable to file their audit reports and had been requesting an extension.

Deadline extended till October 31

Sharing the information on social media platform X, the Income Tax Department wrote, “The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has decided to extend the due date for filing of various audit reports for the previous year 2024-25 (assessment year 2025-26) from September 30, 2025 to October 31, 2025 for taxpayers referred to in clause (a) of Explanation 2 to sub-section (1) of section 139 of the Act.

The High Court had given instructions

The Bhilwara and Jodhpur Tax Bar Associations filed two separate petitions in the Rajasthan High Court seeking an extension to the deadline for submitting tax audit reports. Hearing both petitions jointly, the Jodhpur Bench of the Rajasthan High Court directed the CBDT to extend the deadline to October 31, 2025. Following this, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) announced the extension today.

AIFTP also made the demand

Additionally, the All India Tax Practitioners Federation (AIFTP) has requested the CBDT to extend the filing deadlines for ITRs and tax audit reports for the assessment year 2025-26. AIFTP President Samir Jani told news agency PTI on Tuesday that a memorandum requesting an extension has been submitted to the CBDT chairman, citing various challenges faced by taxpayers and professionals, including floods, landslides, technical glitches, and compliance challenges.
