Tata Tiago EV Buyers Guide: Which Variant To Buy?

India’s most affordable electric vehicle, the Tata Tiago EV, has just been launched, making it the first entrant in the electric hatchback segment. Compared to its ICE version, it gets slightly updated styling, more features, and of course an all-electric powertrain, thus, becoming an attractive proposition when viewed from a wider perspective.

If you’re planning to buy the electrified version of the Tata Tiago, we will help you to find its most value-for-money variant. Let’s start with its specifications.

The entry-level Tata EV is available with two lithium-ion battery packs: 19.2kWh and 24kWh. Their output differs from each other for some good reasons. However, it makes the EV the least powerful in the entire Tiago range. For reference, its petrol version generates 86PS/113Nm, whereas its CNG iteration produces 73PS/95Nm. But it is worth noting that the power delivery mechanism works differently in electric vehicles.

DIMENSIONS

The Tata Tiago EV is 3769mm long, 1677mm wide, 1536mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2400mm. It rides on 14-inch wheels, one inch smaller than its ICE version. At 240 liters, its boot space has also been compromised by 2 liters.

VARIANTS-WISE PRICING AND FEATURES

1. TATA TIAGO XE

Key Features: –

• Exterior – 14-inch steel wheels, halogen headlamps, black outside door handles, body-colored bumpers.
• Interior – Dual-tone light grey & black interior, fabric seat upholstery, flat-bottom steering wheel, and a digital instrument cluster.
• Comfort & Convenience – Automatic AC, tilt adjustable power steering, front power outlet, door open & key-in reminder, internally adjustable OVRMs, connected car tech with 40+ features, including geo-fence, vehicle health, and remote AC on/off.
• Safety – Dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, speed-sensing door lock, impact sensing door unlock, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), reverse parking sensors, auto battery cut-off on impact, puncture repair kit
• EV Technology – Multi-level regen braking (4 levels, including single-pedal drive convenience)

Verdict: – The base-spec Tiago XE trim is only available with the smaller battery pack, which has range restrictions. Also, we can’t deny that its real-world range will differ from the claimed figures. For reference, the real-world range of the Tata Tigor EV, which comes with a 26kWH battery pack, is around 180-200 kilometers. Furthermore, it lacks essential features like power windows, day/night IRVM, and a music system. Therefore, we suggest you skip this variant.

2. TATA TIAGO XT

Key Features (over XE): –

• Exterior – Wheel covers, body-colored door handles, OVRM mounted turn indicators.
• Comfort & Convenience – All four power windows, smartwatch connectivity support, steering mounted audio & telephony controls, power adjustable wing mirrors with auto-fold function, and City & Sport drive modes (only in long-range version).
• Infotainment – 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Carp lay and Android Auto, 4 speakers.
• Safety – Day/night rearview mirror and follow-me-home function

Verdict: The long-range Tiago XT can be a good option for those with budget restrictions. Otherwise, skip to the XZ+ variant for a better in-car experience.

3. TATA TIAGO XZ+

Key Features (over XT): –

• Exterior – Automatic projector headlamps, DRLs, front fog lamps, 14-inch hyper style wheels, chrome finished door handles.
• Interior – Chrome finished door handles and knitted headliner.
• Comfort & Convenience – Rain-sensing wipers, cruise control, cooled glovebox, height-adjustable driver seat, rear wiper & washer, rear demister, power socket for rear passengers, rear parcel shelf, one-touch driver side window.
• Infotainment – 4-tweeters
• Safety – Rear parking camera

Verdict: – The Tiago XZ+ variant is Rs 80,000 pricier than the long-range XT variant, but the stretch is truly justified considering all the extra features it gains, making it the most value-for-money variant of the Tata Tiago EV, in our opinion.

4. TATA TIAGO XZ+ TECH LUX

Key Features (over XZ+): –

• Exterior – Dual-tone shade (sports black roof & ORVMs with all color options)
• Interior – Leatherette seat upholstery and leather-wrapped steering wheel.
• Comfort & Convenience – Keyless entry with push-button start, electric tailgate.

Verdict: All additional elements and features over the XZ+ variant will make your overall experience with the car more superior; however, none of these are influential enough to bring any significant difference in your day-to-day use. Also, the lack of adjustable rear headrests might disappoint you.
