What is the maximum amount you can deposit?

The minimum deposit amount is ₹250 and the maximum deposit amount is ₹1.5 lakh in a financial year. The account can be opened in the name of a girl until she is 10 years of age. At the same time, only one account can be opened in the name of a girl.

When can you withdraw money

Withdrawals will be allowed to meet education expenses for the purpose of higher education of the account holder. The account can be closed prematurely if the girl gets married after the age of 18 years. The account will mature on completion of 21 years from the date of opening. Please note that the account can be opened in post offices and authorized banks. The account can be transferred from one post office/bank to another anywhere in India. There is also a provision for tax exemption on deposits under the scheme.

April-June period interest

The government has not made any change in the interest rates of various small savings schemes for the first quarter of the next financial year starting from April 1, 2024. This means that the amount deposited under Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana will get an interest rate of 8.2 percent as before.

Similarly, interest rates on PPF and savings deposits have also been maintained at 7.1 percent and four percent respectively. The interest rate on Kisan Vikas Patra will be 7.5 percent and this investment will mature in 115 months. The interest rate on National Savings Certificate (NSC) will be 7.7 percent for the period April 1 to June 30, 2024. At the same time, the interest rate for monthly income scheme will be 7.4 percent like the current quarter.
