Gold and silver prices opened lower on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) on Tuesday amid a weak global market trend, with investors cautious about US-Iran developments and US interest rates.
Spot gold held steady at $4,332.50 an ounce in the international market, though it had hit its lowest level in more than two months in the previous trading session. Meanwhile, US gold futures for August delivery fell 0.1 percent to $4,357.10 an ounce.
Talking about silver, the price of spot silver fell by 0.7 percent to $67.71 per ounce.
The market was also impacted by developments involving the US, Iran, and Israel. Following an appeal from US President Donald Trump, Iran and Israel have halted attacks on each other. However, Iran has warned that it may retaliate if Israel continues to attack Hezbollah in Lebanon.
At the same time, fears of increase in interest rates by the US Federal Reserve are also increasing the concerns of investors, due to which there is pressure on the prices of gold and silver.
