After that, in the 7th pay commission in 2016, the maximum basic pay was increased to Rs 2.5 lakh. Talking about the minimum basic, it increased from Rs 55 per month to Rs 18000 per month. But now the eyes of the central employees are fixed on the 8th pay commission, in which experts are predicting that they will get the biggest salary increment till date.

What will be special in the 8th Pay Commission?

According to RK Verma, General Secretary of the Joint Employees Council, the recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission are yet to come, but in the initial indications, the 8th Pay Commission can increase the minimum salary of employees from 18,000 to 51,480. That is, a huge increase of 30 to 34 percent, which can be the biggest increment till date. This estimate has been made by brokerage house Ambit.

What changes can happen in the 8th Pay Commission?

3- When is it to be implemented: The central government has fixed the date of implementation of the 8th Pay Commission as January 1, 2026, but the work of the members of the commission and the Terms of Reference (ToR) is still pending. When did the salary increase the most?

According to Verma, it is estimated that a salary hike of 30–34% is possible in the 8th Pay Commission. If this happens, it will be the biggest increment till date. The main focus of the commission is to cover inflation, reflect economic growth and give balanced salary to all sections. The 7th Pay Commission brought a big change by introducing pay matrix in place of grade-pay and the 6th Pay Commission also brought efficiency in administrative work by introducing pay band. The increased salary will provide better accommodation, health services and lifestyle to the employees.

If the increase is made keeping inflation in mind then the situation will improve
According to investment expert Amit Nigam, while the inflation rate is expected to remain between 6 to 7 percent in 2025 and the years ahead, an increase of more than 30 percent in salary can bring a big improvement in Actual Purchasing Power. In the past years, the income of employees has been lagging behind the pace of inflation. If this proposal comes into effect, not only will there be stability in the job but employees will also feel more financially empowered.
