Retirement age should be increased gradually

The Economic Advisory Council report released on Wednesday said that the retirement age should be raised in a phased manner, as India is a country of youth and has a large working population. The report released by the Council’s chairman Bibek Debroy said that raising the retirement age creates employment opportunities for the elderly without compromising on the needs of the existing employees and the availability of jobs.

Make a policy for skill development

The report said that increasing the working age population also needs to raise the retirement age, or it may not reduce the pressure on the social security system and this is difficult for the country to achieve. The report also talks about skill development of persons above 50 years of age. It has been said in the report that such policies should be made by the central and state governments so that their skill development can be done. This effort should also include the unorganized sector, those living in remote areas, refugees, migrants who do not have the means to get training.

Where is the oldest

According to the report given by the Economic Advisory Council, Rajasthan tops the list of old age states, followed by Maharashtra and Bihar with the highest population of elderly people. While Himachal is at the top in the category of relatively old states, it is followed by Uttarakhand and Haryana. In the report, the old state with a population of 50 lakhs or more and the population of less than 50 lakhs has been called as the relatively old state.

According to the data released by Help Age International, an organization working for elderly people, 10% of India’s total population (about 139 million people) were above 60 years of age by 2019, by 2050 this figure will increase to 19.5%. will go.
