Teacher Retirement Age Hike: The state government has given a big gift to the employees working in the education department. Yes, the government has decided to increase the retirement age of employees working in the education, technical education, medical education departments by one year.
After this decision of the government, now the employees of the education department will be able to work for 1 year more. Let us tell you that CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu had announced this on 15 August and now a notification has been issued in this regard. The government’s decision will benefit teachers working in various educational departments including school education, higher education, technical education, AYUSH education and medical education.
In the notification issued by Principal Secretary Finance Devesh Kumar, it has been clarified that teachers who attain normal retirement age during the academic session are now allowed to continue their service till the end of the session. With this decision, the institutions will not have to face shortage of teachers in the middle of the session. At the same time, this will not disrupt the education and academic planning of the students. Teachers whose retirement notification date is to be between 27 August 2025 and the last day of the month before the end of their respective academic session will automatically get re-employment.
During this period these teachers will get a fixed remuneration, which will be calculated as the difference between their last pay and the full pension they receive. All retirement benefits like gratuity, leave encashment, final GPF and pension commutation will be paid after completion of the session-wise re-employment period. However, regular monthly pension will start from the date of retirement.
At the same time, teachers who do not want re-employment will have to formally inform 60 days before their retirement date. For this request, an application has to be made on a prescribed format. Teachers who are going to retire within 60 days from the notification date can exercise the option any time before their retirement.
