Retirement Age Hike: Big Relief! Govt Employees’ Retirement Age Extended by 3 Years

0

Retirement Age Increased Announcement: For the last few years, there has been a big debate in India about the current fixed age of retirement. In this regard, the youth believe that the retirement age should be reduced amid the increasing unemployment rate and decreasing job opportunities.

The argument behind this is that, new recruitments will take place due to the vacancies of the posts and opportunities will be created for the youth. On the other hand, more experienced employees are being given preference over the youth for government and non-government work. Hence, the demand for increase in retirement age has also been raised from time to time.

However, in the meantime, a good news has come out for the government doctors. The state government has announced an increase in the retirement age of its medical officers.

Retirement Age Increased Announcement: In fact, the Punjab government has decided to increase the retirement age of medical officers/specialist doctors and dental faculty from 62 to 65 years under the Punjab Dental Education (Group-A) Service Rules, 2016. Punjab Finance Minister Harpal announced this on Tuesday. He said that the Finance Department has officially approved the proposal of the Department of Medical Education and Research.

Decision as per Amritsar and Patiala policy

He further said that after this approval, the retirement age of dental teaching faculty will increase from 62 years to 65 years. Which is in line with the already implemented policy for medical teaching faculty in government medical colleges and hospitals of Amritsar and Patiala. He aims that this decision will increase the overall performance and quality of the Department of Medical Education and Research.

This decision will increase the service period of 113 professionals including 112 dental teaching faculty members and a joint director, so that the expertise and experience of these medical faculty can be leveraged to further improve the performance of the Department of Medical Education and Research.
