Indian private telecom operators are engaged in a bitter war of words after Reliance Jio wrote a letter to TRAI complaining against Bharti Airtel and Vodafone’s anti MNP competitive advertising during the ongoing farmers protest. Jio has alleged that telcos are spreading rumours that Jio and it’s parent company will benefit from new farm bills.

Jio has also alleged that telcos are spreading rumours about using Jio number as a sign of not supporting farmer’s protest. Jio has requested TRAI to take strict action Against Airtel and Vodafone (VI).

After the letter was made public, Airtel refuted Jio’s allegations. In a statement, the company said, “The complaint relates to market activities in Punjab/Haryana LSA that are purportedly encouraging customers to Port to Airtel. We wish to emphatically deny this baseless charge.”

Jio is offering unlimited free calling and 150 Mbps speed data also free

The statement further read, “Despite being provoked by some competitors who we know will go to any length to make baseless allegations, adopt bullying tactics and use intimidatory behaviour we have always conducted our business with character & transparency something that we are deeply proud of and known for.”

It further added, “The current complaint therefore, deserves to be dismissed and thrown out with the contempt that it deserves. It is in poor taste and is scurrilous to say the least.”
Vodafone Idea said that it believes in doing business with ethics. VI statement read, “These are baseless allegations against us to malign our reputation. VI strongly refute such irresponsible comments on us.”
