New Delhi. Now there will be no need to wait long for the Registration Certificate (RC) of new vehicles in Delhi. According to the order of the Delhi Transport Department, now immediately after buying the vehicle, the dealers will print the RC and hand it over to the customers. People will get a lot from this. Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot inspected this facility of RC printing on Tuesday and handed over a new RC to a customer.

Let us inform that in March this year, Delhi Transport Department had started a pilot project for printing of RCs by dealers for registration of new vehicles (in South Zone). The first RC printed in this way was issued on 17 March 2021 and after that the service was extended to the whole of Delhi till September 2021.

The new QR code-based smart cards for vehicle registration certificates have the owner’s name printed on the front, while the microchip and QR code are embedded on the back of the card. The QR based smart card is capable of linking and integrating all the information related to vehicle registration with the web based database – Sarathi and Vahan.

QR code smart card is being implemented across the country. The QR code reader is easily accessible, which makes the information stored in the card easy to read. These new cards will be made of polyvinyl chloride or PVC, or polycarbonate to ensure their durability. The QR code also acts as a security feature in the smart card.

Now no need to go to RTO for RC

Let us inform that there are 263 dealers in Delhi who are providing the facility of printing RC at their dealer point. The Transport Department has already issued 1,44,395 RCs through self-registration dealers since the pilot project started. Every year around 6 lakh new vehicles are registered in Delhi and with this new system of RC printing, buyers will no longer have to wait for months or visit the RTO to get their RC. This service will soon be officially dedicated to the public by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

How easy is public service in Delhi?
Delhi’s Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot said, ‘The public service we have made in Delhi as simple as it is not in any other state so far. This is actually an extension of the faceless services that we launched earlier this year, which has already been availed by lakhs of Delhiites and is being replicated in other states. Earlier, Delhiites used to worry a lot to get their vehicles registered on time both at dealer point and RTO but now a buyer will get his RC along with the vehicle.

Gehlot further said, “We have strict regulatory provisions in place to ensure that no additional fee is charged to any consumer for printing these RCs. Earlier, where one had to wait for months for RC, now RC will be available on the spot at the time of buying the vehicle.
