Razorpay: Now OTP is not required for card payments, Razorpay brings biometric facility

Razorpay: Have you forgotten your credit or debit card PIN? Or are you worried about not receiving the OTP? If so, then there is no need to panic, because soon you will not need any of these to make credit card payments.

Yes, in fact, payment service provider Razorpay has launched the facility of biometric authentication, which will eliminate the need for OTP in card transactions. This facility, launched in partnership with Yes Bank, was announced by Razorpay CEO Harshil Mathur at the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2025.

Explaining the move, Mathur said that card payments traditionally required entering an OTP or PIN, but delays and network issues often resulted in failed transactions. “One challenge with OTPs is that they sometimes don’t arrive on time, or the network doesn’t work, leading to about 5 to 10 percent of failed payments,” he said.

To address this issue, Razorpay has introduced a biometric option. “Now, when you make a card payment, instead of an OTP, you just need to show your face, and the transaction is completed through Face ID. If the phone has a fingerprint sensor, it will use that,” Mathur explained.

He said this method offers two advantages – greater security and more successful transactions. “It’s more secure and also improves the success rate. This is the next generation of payments that will take India on a global level as well as advance how payments are authorized,” Mathur said.

This launch marks another step forward in the evolution of India’s digital payments ecosystem, reflecting the fintech sector’s focus on security, innovation and user convenience.
