The Food Ministry is considering extending the period of implementation of ration card portability from March 2021 under the ‘One Nation-One Ration Card’ initiative. This was discussed in the meeting of an empowered committee to improve public distribution system.

Food Secretary Sudhanshu Pandey presided over the meeting. The meeting was called to review and approve the extension of the integrated management deadline of the public distribution system. The ‘One Nation – One Ration Card’ scheme will be implemented under this management system.
What is a nation – a ration card?

The system will provide technology solutions for the portability of ration cards among states. The ministry said in a statement that it is considering to implement it after March 2021 in view of continuing the work done so far under this management system and further strengthening it.

How will you benefit?
Under the One Nation One Ration Card Scheme, the beneficiaries of the National Food Security Act will have the facility to get food grains from another state with the same ration card in case they migrate from their home state to another state.

Previously it was the rule
Earlier, in the district where ration card was made, you could get ration in the same district. On the other hand, if you had changed the district, you would not have benefited from it. This gives the poor grain easily at affordable prices. One country, after the implementation of a ration card, people below the poverty line can buy ration in any corner of the country at an affordable price.
