Rapid Rail/NCRTC: India’s fastest train will be different from Rapid Rail Metro and other trains. These trains will have automatic plug-in type wide doors to reduce air friction and noise.


Rapid Rail/NCRTC: India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) trains for the Delhi-Meerut corridor have recently been handed over to the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) . This state-of-the-art RRTS trainset is 100% Make-in-India. It is being manufactured at Alstom’s factory in Savli, Gujarat. With this, the 17 km high speed track from Sahibabad to Duhai (Uttar Pradesh) will be ready very soon as soon as the first phase of Rapid Rail is trialed.

The speed of the train will be 180 kmph

This train will run at a speed of 180 kmph, which will be the first train in the country to have a business or ‘premium’ coach on any regional corridor.

How will Rapid Rail be different from Metro and other trains?

  1. Ergonomically designed 2×2 transverse cushioned seating, onboard WiFi, laptop and mobile charging facility at each seat, CCTV cameras, dynamic route map, auto control ambient lighting system are some of the salient features of the modern RRTS train which will run Delhi-Ghaziabad- Will run on Meerut corridor.
  2. Between Delhi and Meerut, NCRTC is setting up India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System (RTS), a “rail-based, high-speed, high-frequency regional commuter transit system”.
  3. According to NCRTC officials, modern RRTS trains will also have facilities like heating ventilation and air conditioning system (HVAC), dedicated wheelchairs and stretcher space located near the train door for easy access.
  4. RRTS trains will have a standard as well as a premium class (one coach per train), with one coach reserved for women passengers. These trains will be run in sections of four and six coaches depending on the requirement of that route.
  5. Officials said that these will be the fastest trains in India as it has a design speed of 180 kmph and an operating speed of 160 kmph. He said that the average speed of these RRTS trains would be 100 kmph.
  6. These RRTS trains will also be equipped with fire and smoke detectors, fire extinguishers and door indicators.
  7. RRTS trains will offer panoramic view of the outside with double glazed, tempered large safety glass windows.
  8. The trains will be equipped with public announcement and display systems, dynamic route map display, infotainment displays as well as emergency communication facilities.
  9. These trains are designed to have advanced visual and audio announcements, which provide information to the passengers about the next stop, final destination, train speed etc.
  10. These trains will have automatic plug-in type wide doors to reduce air friction and noise, officials said, adding that push buttons will also be available for selective opening of doors based on need. This will eliminate the need to open all the doors at every station, thereby saving energy.
  11. Innovative Train Control Monitoring System (TCMS) technology, as well as its prediction and position-based monitoring features, will enhance fleet performance by providing comprehensive train-to-ground diagnostics.
