Indian Railways: Indian Railways keeps taking steps from time to time for the convenience of passengers. Now the Railways has taken a big decision regarding Tatkal tickets. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has said that Indian Railways will soon start using e-Aadhaar authentication to book Tatkal tickets. This will help genuine passengers to get confirmed tickets at the time of need.

Every day around 225,000 passengers book Tatkal tickets through the online platform of Indian Railways. The online Tatkal ticket booking pattern from May 24 to June 2 showed that on an average only 5,615 out of 108,000 AC class tickets were booked in the first minute after the Tatkal window opened. However, 22,827 tickets were booked in the second minute. In the AC class, an average of 67,159 tickets were booked online within the first 10 minutes of the window opening, which is 62.5% of all tickets booked online. In addition, the remaining 37.5% tickets were booked 10 minutes before the chart preparation, including 3.01% tatkal tickets booked 10 hours after the window opened.

On the other hand, in the non-AC category, an average of 118,567 tickets were booked online daily from May 24 to June 2. Of these, 4,724 tickets – about 4% – were booked in the first minute, while 20,786 tickets – about 17.5% – were booked in the second minute. About 66.4% of the tickets were sold within the first 10 minutes after the window opened. Additionally, about 84.02% of the tickets were sold within the first hour of the window opening, while the remaining tickets were sold in the next 10 hours. This clearly shows that Tatkal tickets are made available to passengers through the online system and about 12% of the Tatkal tickets are booked even after 8 to 10 hours of opening of the window.

… then the account will be closed

Apart from this, about 20 lakh other accounts have been marked as suspicious and are being investigated on the basis of their Aadhaar and other documents. Currently, there are more than 13 crore active users on the IRCTC website, out of which only 1.2 crore are Aadhaar-verified. IRCTC has decided to do special verification for all accounts that are not authenticated with Aadhaar. Accounts found suspicious will be closed. The railways aim to ensure that genuine passengers get all types of Tatkal tickets. Users who link their IRCTC account with Aadhaar will get priority booking during the first 10 minutes of Tatkal ticket sales.
