Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced on Friday that India Post will revolutionize its services by launching a guaranteed mail and parcel delivery service from January 2026.
Under this new initiative, customers will be assured of a guaranteed delivery timeline within 24 and 48 hours. This means your items will now be guaranteed to be delivered within 24 to 48 hours. The launch of this service is likely to provide strong competition to private courier and parcel service providers.
Details of the new services
The Communications Minister stated that these new services will upgrade the existing Speed Post network. Under this, mail delivery will be ensured within 24 hours. Deliveries through this service will be completed within 48 hours. Scindia also announced another significant initiative: a “next-day parcel delivery” service will be launched. This service will dramatically reduce parcel delivery times. Instead of the current 3 to 5 days, parcels will be delivered the very next day.
Aim to make India Post a ‘profit center’
The Communications Minister also addressed India Post’s financial future. He stated that the government’s overarching goal is to transform India Post from a mere cost center to a profit center by 2029. This initiative will help India Post compete with private courier companies and increase its efficiency and revenue by ensuring timely and reliable delivery to customers.
