With the introduction of the Indian Post Service online facility, customers will no longer need to come to the post office to open and close National Savings Certificate (NSC) and Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP) accounts. You will be able to open and close online while sitting at home. Postal Inspector Diwakar Kumar of Koderma Postal Department said that internet banking is necessary to take advantage of this facility.

If one wants to open an NSC or KVP account, then one has to first take the facility of Department of Post (DOP) Internet Banking. Account holders using DoP Internet Banking operated by Department of Posts can open NSC and KVP accounts from the comfort of their homes.

He told that KVP is a small savings scheme of the postal department. The amount deposited under this matures after 10 years and four months from the date of account opening. Beneficiaries who open an account under this savings scheme get interest at a compounded rate of 6.9 percent. There are savings certificates available through NSC Postal Department’s small savings schemes. The deposit amount matures after five years and at present interest is being given at the rate of 6.8 percent in this scheme.

Postal Inspector Diwakar Kumar told that on going to the Service Request of General Services option to open or close the account, the option of NSC and KVP account will come. NSC account can be opened with a minimum of Rs.

He said that the system of issuing certificates for NSC and KVP has been abolished by the Department of Posts. Now its accounts are opened. NSC and KVP account numbers are issued to the customers. Passbooks are given to the customers. Any person can close or open his account by applying sitting at home, but for this customers will have to take internet banking facility.
