These include Senior Citizens Savings Scheme Account, Public Provident Fund Account (PPF) and Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (Sukanya Samriddhi Account-SSA).

Senior Citizens Savings Scheme Account

At present, interest of 7.4 percent per annum is being available in the Senior Citizens Savings Scheme of the Post Office. In this, quarterly interest is calculated. Interest will be applicable from the date of deposit till 31st March, 30th June, 30th September and 31st December.

A person above 60 years of age can open an account in the Senior Citizen Savings Scheme. Retired employees above 55 years and below 60 years of age can invest subject to the condition that the investment is made within 1 month of receipt of retirement benefits.

Public Provident Fund Account-PPF

At present, an annual interest of 7.1% is being given in the Public Provident Fund Scheme of the Post Office. A minimum of Rs 500 and a maximum of Rs 1,50,000 can be deposited in this scheme in a year. You can deposit this money in a lump sum or in installments. Income tax exemption is also available under section 80C of income tax on the amount deposited in this account. PPF account is opened for 15 years.

Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (Sukanya Samriddhi Account-SSA)

The post office is giving an interest of 7.6 percent per annum on Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana. In this account, you can deposit a minimum of Rs 250 and a maximum of Rs 1.5 lakh in a year.

Under the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, any parent can open an account in the name of his daughter up to the age of 10 years. This account can be opened for maximum two girls in a family. In case of twin girls being followed by another girl, more than two accounts can be opened.
