The Congress party in Kerala is facing a serious crisis right as local body elections are kicking off. Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil has been booked under non-bailable charges after a woman went straight to the Chief Minister with a complaint.

This is a complete political headache, and the damage is immediate.

The Charges: Coercion and Blackmail

The case was registered and is now being investigated under the supervision of Thiruvananthapuram Rural SP S Sudarshan. The allegations are shocking:

  • Sexual Abuse and Fake Promise: The FIR states Rahul sexually abused the woman multiple times, doing so under the pretext of a false marriage promise.

  • Forced Abortion: When the woman became pregnant, Rahul allegedly forced her to terminate the pregnancy, claiming it would “sabotage his political career.”

  • Blackmail: When she objected to the abortion, he allegedly blackmailed her using secretly videotaped footage of their intimate encounters.

The woman told investigators she was pressured into taking two pills without a medical prescription, which caused heavy bleeding. Rahul, however, reportedly dismissed her plight and even threatened her.

The trouble has already been mounting for the young politician. He had to step down as Youth Congress state president after earlier allegations surfaced, and the party eventually suspended him. But he was just starting to re-emerge, actively campaigning for Congress candidates. Now, this new case is a massive setback.

The Evidence and the Lookout

This case gained momentum because the victim herself chose to file the complaint after meeting with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Critically, sources are reporting that the complainant shared digital evidence with investigators—audio, video, and text messages. This is what makes the case so compelling.

And the police have acted fast. A lookout notice has been issued against the MLA to prevent him from fleeing the country via airports.

Mamkootathil quickly posted on Facebook, claiming he was innocent. He says he will “face this through a legal course” and “prove my innocence before the judiciary and the people.”

The investigation is ongoing, and there are strong rumors that the case might be transferred to the Crime Branch or a special team led by a woman IPS officer. The political fallout is just beginning.

End….
