PM pays tributes to those who took part in the Quit India Movement

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has paid tributes to all those who took part in the Quit India Movement, which played a crucial role in strengthening the fight against colonialism.




In a tweet, the Prime Minister said;

“Tributes to the greats who took part in the Quit India Movement, which played a crucial role in strengthening the fight against colonialism. Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, the spirit of the Quit India movement reverberated across India and energised the youth of our nation.”

Qit India Movement:

India was launched on August 8, 1942 by Gandhiji on August 8, 1942 on August 8, 1942 to liberate the slavery of the British. Along with this, to force the British to leave India, make a collective civil disobedience movement or decided to start.

This movement started violence at a large level on railway stations, telephone offices, government buildings and other places and sub-investment state institutions. There was a lot of incidents to break it and the Government took responsive to Gandhiji for these activities of violence and arrested all major leaders of the movement and put it in jail.

Do or die

This movement was run on behalf of the country’s Nation Mahatma Gandhi. Bapu started this movement from the Mumbai convention of All India Congress Committee. Gandhi and his supporters clarified in the Make or Die Movement that he will not give support to the efforts of war unless India should not give freedom. He clarified that this time this movement will not stop. He asked all the Congressmen and Indians to maintain discipline for the last freedom through non-violence or die.

As soon as the movement started, the British started the arrows. On August 8, the movement began and already all members of the Congress Working Committee were arrested before 9 August 1942 and the Congress was declared illegal institution. Not only this, the British entered Gandhiji in Ahmednagar fortress. According to official figures, 940 people were killed in this jancing and 1630 were injured while 60229 people had arrested.

Frozen Congress flags on government buildings

Although even after the suppression policy of the British, this movement did not stop and people went out on the streets to perform against the symbols of the British rule and they started hoisting Congress flags on government buildings. People started to arrest and interfere in general government work. At the same time, students and workers went on strike. Farmers of Bengal started struggling against the increase in taxes. Government employees also stopped working, it was a historic moment. During the Quit India, the leader like Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia, Jai Prakash Narayan and Aruna Asaf Ali emerged.




Organized by the movement

This movement had received a success in its purpose, but this movement organized India by the end of 1943. At the end of the movement, the British government had indicated that transfer of power will be handed over to the hands of Indians. At this time Gandhiji closed the movement, which was released about 100,000 political prisoners, including Congress leaders. August Revolution proved to be the most huge and most intense movement in 1942 in all the movements run for the country’s independence after 1857. Because of which the foundation of the British rule in India was completely shaken. While announcing the movement, Gandhiji had said that I put the Congress on the ban. This is a collective fight that is spreading the battle.

  • During the movement, Aruna Asaf Ali and Usha Mehta continuously operating the Underground Radio Station. Through this, the agitator could know the activities happening in other parts of the country. In November 1942, the British Government caught it.
  • The British had put the entire leadership of the Congress in jail within a few hours of the proposal to leave the British. Local leaders of the city and villages were also arrested. Due to which there was no leader to run the movement, but despite this, the movement continues to continuously for one and a half years.
  • The local agitators made their government in Satara and Uttar Pradesh of Maharashtra, Midnapuri of Bengal.
  • Capturing the district administration in Ballia, he released the Congress leaders, while the provincial government of Midnapore continued till 1944. After the appeal of Mahatma Gandhi, the agitator agreed to end it.
  • In many places across the country, the agitators resorted violence against English power and its establishments.
  • About 250 railway stations, 150 police station and more than 500 post offices were burned. Congress could not control it because all its leaders were in jail.
