Penalty due to old FASTag: You may have to pay penalty even after installing FASTag on vehicles. This may sound strange but it is true that even after Fastag you may have to pay penalty. People believe that by applying Fastag they do not have to pay any fine at the toll plaza. You may also be fined for installing FASTag in your vehicle. Some drivers have to pay huge fines even after getting Fastag installed. People have complained about this matter. When the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) investigated, this reason came to light. After this, NHAI has appealed to the drivers not to make such mistakes.

Why is there a penalty on FASTag?

Since February 2021, when FASTags became mandatory, fines are being imposed even if the vehicle has a FASTag. The drivers also had an argument and altercation with the toll personnel, who could not explain the reason for this. FASTags were launched by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in November 2016. After this month, FASTags became mandatory for new vehicles. This means that now every vehicle is equipped with Fastag in the showroom. The first transactions with FASTags began in December 2016. If you purchased a vehicle in November 2016, your FASTag will not work at toll plazas. So now you need to change it.

How to transfer your old FASTag balance to the new one?

Drivers should remove the old Fastag and get a new Fastag. But if FASTag is linked to a bank account or has some balance in it, then you should go to the concerned bank and get another FASTag, which should be fitted in the vehicle. Transfer the remaining balance from the old FASTag to the new FASTag.

There are 2000 toll plazas in the country

FASTag is available at 2000 toll plazas across the country, including highways and state highways. Apart from toll plazas, parking payment at many places is also being done through Fastag. More than 6.5 crore FASTags have been issued in the country.
