PAN-Aadhaar Link Alert! Linking Aadhaar with PAN will attract penalty of Rs 1000 from April 1, 2022, CBDT issued notification

In the first three months after April 1, a penalty of Rs 500 will have to be paid for linking PAN with Aadhaar. Linking after this period will have to pay a penalty of Rs 1000.


Aadhar-PAN Link: Have you linked your Aadhar Card with PAN Card till now or not. If you haven’t done it, do it immediately or else your problems may increase. Linking Aadhaar with PAN has been made mandatory from April 1, 2022. CBDT has given this information by issuing a notification. There will be a penalty for linking PAN with Aadhaar from April 1, 2022. A penalty of Rs 500 will have to be paid for linking PAN with Aadhaar within the first three months after April 1. Linking after this period will have to pay a penalty of Rs 1000.

After this order of CBDT, it is clear that the government is not going to extend the dates for linking Aadhar card with PAN card. Let us tell you that earlier the government has extended this deadline many times and the last date was made 31 March 2022. But according to the notification of CBDT, from April 1, 2022, a penalty will have to be paid for linking Aadhaar with PAN.

If PAN card is not linked with Aadhaar, you will not be able to do work like opening mutual fund, demat account, bank account, because PAN card is necessary for all these. If the PAN card is locked due to non-linking of Aadhar card and PAN card, then you will not be able to take advantage of any such facility where PAN card is mandatory. Therefore, if you have not linked PAN and Aadhar card yet, then complete this work soon.

  • Open the Income Tax e-filing portal https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/.
  • Register on it (if not already done).
  • Your PAN (Permanent Account Number) will be your User ID.
  • Log in by entering User ID, Password and Date of Birth.
  • A pop up window will open asking you to link your PAN with Aadhaar.
  • If the pop up window does not open then go to ‘Profile Settings’ on the menu bar and click on ‘Link Aadhaar’.
  • As per the PAN, the details like name, date of birth and gender will be mentioned there already.
  • Verify your Aadhaar and PAN card details.
  • If the details match, enter your Aadhaar number and click on the “Link Now” button.
  • A pop-up message will inform you that your Aadhaar has been successfully linked with your PAN.
