Old Pension Scheme Latest Update: Demand is being made on behalf of the employees of different states regarding the restoration of old pension. The government had to bow down to the protests of the employees in Karnataka and Maharashtra in the past days. Along with this, both these governments have also assured to implement the old pension.

The employees of the Uttarakhand government are also preparing to protest against the demand for old pension. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Vishwa Sharma, on his part has taken a step forward in the interest of the employees.

Correct pension structure will be known after 2035

Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma said that the government will consider paying the difference between old and new pension scheme to the employees. During the discussion on the private members’ proposal, Sharma said that the exact pension structure would be known only after 2035, when the first group of employees would retire after completing their tenure from 2005.

The correct picture of NPS cannot be assumed

He said, whatever we are discussing right now is on the basis of those people whose service was regularized after 2005 and they have already retired due to age. This cannot be taken as a true picture of the National Pension System (NPS).

Raising this issue, Independent MLA Akhil Gogoi said that senior citizens who have recently quit their jobs and are part of the NPS. People registered under NPS are getting a very nominal pension, with the maximum pension amount being Rs 2,600 per month.
