North India Freeze: 9°C Cold Snap Hits NCR, Fog Settles In

IMD issued alert: Rain increases cold! Meteorological Department has issued a dense fog alert for four days from today, check details

The air did its usual winter thing. It got heavy. It got thick. The capital woke up and the air hit different. Colder. Foggier. The air quality? Still bad, let’s be real. It’s a double whammy—the choking smog is now paired with a sudden, serious cold snap.

X was the relatively mild weather a few days ago. And then Y followed: the temperature slammed down fast.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) is calling it. The real story is the freeze. The minimum temperature is expected to bottom out at 9°C today. Nine degrees. That’s the feeling when you step outside. Daytime will only crawl up to around 24°C.

The thing is, this isn’t a quick chill. The IMD says this moderate fog is settling in. It’s likely to blanket the entire NCR through the end of the week. They’re predicting it to be shallow on Wednesday, but thick enough to cause visibility issues in the mornings thereafter.

It’s been a rapid slide. Night temperatures were sitting at 12°C. And then they slipped to 10°C fast. Now we’re looking at 8 to 9°C by the middle of the week. That’s a sharp drop. You feel it in your bones. The city is trying to function under this cold, foggy lid. It’s ongoing.
