In an exclusive conversation with Moneycontrol’s Vandana Ramani, Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) CEO Arun Vir Singh said, “We are expecting 50 lakh passengers from day one. That too at IGI (Indira Gandhi International) airport.” Without effect.” “All international, domestic and cargo flights will take off from this airport from day one,” he added. Arun Vir Singh said, “The construction work of Noida International Airport started in June 2021. It was awarded to Tata Projects on behalf of Zurich International Airport AG, which is the concessionaire in our case. It is a fully FDI project and Its construction work is expected to be completed in 1095 days i.e. 3 years. So it is progressing as per the timeline. We are monitoring it daily.”

“The first phase is expected to be completed by September 30, 2023. Other phases will come up depending on the passenger capacity and the development of the airport. It will depend on the number of passengers and cargo,” he said.

Arun Veer Singh said, “Bangalore airport has had a growth of 29%. Looking at this, we can say that once flights start, our growth here at Jewar will be more than that, at least 15 to 20% more. Hopefully in the next 5 years it will be a 30 million passenger capacity airport, and then in the next 5 years it will be 50 million passenger capacity.”

“When the project is completed with all 5 runways and MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) completed, it will have a total passenger capacity of 225 million passengers and will be the largest airport in Asia,” he added.

There are also plans to develop the Noida International Greenfield Airport as a transit hub for international airlines flying to Asia-Pacific countries such as Japan, Australia and Singapore.

Zurich International Airport AG is in talks with Tata Airlines, IndiGo, SpiceJet and various other airlines for this and all want to make India a transit hub. This is an opportunity, especially since airline companies are buying more aircraft.

“At present, we have only 600 aircraft in the country. However, now we are going to have additional aircraft of over 1,200 as SpiceJet, Indigo and Air India/Vistara have recently placed orders for purchase of new aircraft,” he said. In such a situation, there is a lot of possibility that a transit hub can be made here in Jewar and all flights to Asia-Pacific countries can be started from here.
