NHAI's new initiative: Passengers will get this special facility 24 hours at toll plazas

New Delhi: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has taken a significant step for the convenience of commuters. Complete information about local monthly and annual passes will now be openly displayed at all toll plazas across the country. The aim is to provide drivers with transparent and easy-to-use information regarding pass rates, availability and procedure. NHAI has directed all field offices to put up these information boards at each toll plaza within 30 days.

Information boards will be in three languages

As per NHAI guidelines, information boards will be installed in Hindi, English and local language to ensure easy understanding for every passenger. These boards will be clearly visible both during the day and night. These boards will be installed at the entry and exit points of toll plazas as well as at customer service areas. This information will also be available on NHAI’s Highway Travel mobile app and website, allowing people to access the pass information digitally.

Monthly Pass for Local Commuters

NHAI’s Local Monthly Pass is available to commuters who live within 20 km (or prescribed limit) from the toll plaza and travel in their own vehicle daily. Documents like Aadhaar card, vehicle registration certificate and address proof are required. This pass can be obtained directly from the toll plaza helpdesk. This system will provide considerable convenience and time saving to local commuters.

Digital annual pass to be implemented across the country

Meanwhile, the annual pass will be valid for one year or up to 200 toll crossings. It will be applicable only to private vehicles like cars, jeeps and vans. The pass can be purchased through the Highways Travel app for a one-time payment of ₹3,000. Importantly, the pass is digitally activated directly on FASTag and is valid at around 1,150 toll plazas across the country. This move by NHAI is an important initiative under Digital India to increase transparency and simplify the passenger experience.
