The Labor Ministry has presented a clarification on Saturday on the allegation of setting up a special group and implementing minimum wages through recommendations. In this, the government denied the news coming out about the new pay code.

The new wage code has to be implemented so that the workers can get their due and their minimum wages can be fixed, but for some time the government has been accused of deliberate delay in this matter. In such a situation, the Labor Ministry clarified on Saturday that the government has no intention to delay in fixing the minimum wage and the national minimum wage.

The ministry said, “It is clarified that the government has no intention to delay the implementation of the Minimum Wage Rules. The expert group will submit its recommendations to the government at the earliest.”

The ministry gave this clarification on the basis of reports that an expert group would be constituted on the issue which would help in fixing the minimum wages. Earlier this month, the ministry announced that the Center has constituted an expert group headed by renowned economist Ajit Mishra to provide technical inputs and recommendations for fixing these wages.

At the national level, minimum wage refers to a wage that is applicable to all categories of workers throughout the country. The group has been constituted for a period of three years from the date of notification. The group will look at international best practices for fixing wage rates and develop a scientific benchmark for wage fixation.

The first meeting of the group was held on June 14, 2021 and the second is to be held on June 29. In this, the minimum wages for different categories of workers will be fixed on different standards.
