Due to the deteriorating air quality in Delhi, the central government has imposed many restrictions. Old diesel vehicles coming to Delhi from other states have been banned.
The Air Quality Management Commission has banned the entry of diesel vehicles with BS4 engines in Delhi. Along with this, there has been a complete ban on medium goods vehicles and heavy goods vehicles. However, there is a discount on CNG trucks. In addition, vehicles providing essential goods and emergency services have been exempted.
Barring electric and CNG-run trucks, the entry of other trucks into Delhi has also been banned in the capital. The Air Quality Management Commission has directed that four wheeler light motor vehicles running on diesel should be banned in Delhi and NCR, but if the diesel vehicle is BS6 then this ban will not apply and if it is BS4 then it will be banned in the capital. Along with this, a fine of Rs 20,000 will be imposed for violating the ban.
In the order issued by the Delhi Transport Department, it has been said that only BS6 vehicles and vehicles of essential and emergency services will be allowed to ply on the roads till the situation improves. The department has also sent notices to those whose cars fall in the restricted category.
The notice said, “Since your vehicle falls in the above category, you are directed not to drive your registered vehicle in Delhi till the implementation of Phase III/IV of GRAP. If you are found driving a vehicle, a fine of Rs 20,000 will be imposed.”
Delhi’s air quality index was recorded in the ‘severe’ category for the third consecutive day. The AQI was recorded at 408 in the national capital today and along with it a thick layer of smog was also seen. An AQI above 400 is considered in the “severe” category, which can affect people’s health and more seriously affect the health of people living with the disease.
