New Toll Policy: ₹3000 Annual Fastag pass will allow 200 trips, Ministry of Road and Transport has announced this

Annual Fastag is being introduced from 15 August 2025, whose validity will be one year or 200 trips. The Ministry of Road and Transport has announced this.

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari made an important announcement on June 18, informing about the launch of FASTag based Annual Pass for travellers in India. He made this announcement through a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). Under this scheme, owners of non-commercial vehicles like private cars, jeeps and vans will be able to travel hassle-free on national highways for a year or up to 200 trips (whichever is completed first) by paying ₹ 3000. This facility will be effective from August 15, 2025.

Nitin Gadkari said that this annual pass will not only make travel convenient for those traveling on national highways across the country, but will also reduce expenses. For this, a link will be made available on the Highway Yatra App (Rajmarg Yatra App) and the official websites of NHAI and MoRTH, from where the pass can be activated and renewed.
Another big advantage of this new policy is that it also solves the old problems that often arose due to toll plazas being located within a radius of 60 kilometers. Now commuters will not have the trouble of paying toll again and again. A single payment will easily cover the entire year or up to 200 trips.

If a person does not travel every day and uses the highway only occasionally, then he will be given the facility of paying according to the distance. In this system, ₹50 will have to be paid for every 100 km. That is, the more you travel, the more money you will pay. This option is for those who do not travel long distances.

It will be started from Delhi-Jaipur highway where this technology has already been tried as a pilot project. According to reports, these tests have been successful with about 98% accuracy, which shows the technical strength of this new system.

For those who take highway pass every month, this annual pass will be more beneficial. The current monthly pass costs ₹340 per month i.e. ₹4080 annually, whereas in the new scheme, a year-round facility is available for just ₹3000. Also, one will not have to stop at the toll plaza, which will save both time and petrol. Passengers will also get relief from the hassle of recharging Fastag again and again.

There will be no crowd at toll plaza

The purpose of implementing this entire policy is to make the country’s toll collection digital and eliminate the crowd at toll plazas. For this, toll booths will be removed and sensors, cameras and GPS based systems will be installed at various places. A special technology ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) will be used in this, which will automatically deduct the toll by recognizing the vehicle’s number plate and the vehicle will not need to stop.

The government is also keeping in mind that there should be no toll theft. Therefore, banks will be given the authority to monitor the maintenance of minimum balance in Fastag accounts and can also impose fines on violators. Apart from this, a compensation scheme will also be made to compensate the losses incurred by the toll collection companies so that they do not have to bear any kind of loss.
