The Uttar Pradesh government has taken a big step regarding road safety. Now a new rule has come into force for two-wheeler drivers in the state, which is called ‘No helmet, no fuel’. According to this rule,
if the driver does not wear a helmet, he will not get petrol or diesel. This campaign will start from September 1 and will run for the entire month i.e. till September 30. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has clarified the purpose behind this rule that it is not just to impose fines, but to make people get into the habit of wearing helmets. He has appealed to the people of the state to adopt the rule of ‘first wear helmet, then take fuel’ and ensure road safety.
Objective of ‘No Helmet, No Fuel’ campaign
There is a big motive behind this new rule. The number of road accidents in Uttar Pradesh is very high, in which many times people drive two-wheelers without helmets. Wearing a helmet reduces the risk of head injury and can save lives. Therefore, the goal of this campaign is to motivate every citizen to follow road safety rules so that deaths and serious injuries in road accidents can be reduced. This campaign will run under the leadership of the District Magistrate in the entire state and officials of the Police, Transport Department, Revenue Department and District Administration will work together in it.
Responsibility and conduct of the campaign
This campaign will run in coordination with DRSC i.e. District Road Safety Committee in all the districts of the state. District officials, policemen and transport department employees will work together in the campaign so that compliance of rules can be ensured everywhere. This campaign will also have an impact on petrol pumps. If a driver comes to a petrol pump without wearing a helmet, he will not get fuel. Petrol pump operators and oil marketing companies will also have to cooperate in this campaign.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath appealed
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has clarified that this campaign is not to punish, but to raise awareness. He said that wearing a helmet is the biggest weapon of safety and driving without it is like playing with your life. He has urged the public to respect and follow this rule so that the safety of themselves and others can be ensured.
Cooperation of Petrol Dealer Association and Departments
The Petrol Dealer Association has also assured cooperation in this campaign. Monitoring and coordination will be increased through oil companies, petrol pump operators and Food and Logistics Department so that the campaign can be fully effective. Transport Commissioner Brajesh Narayan Singh said that this initiative is completely in the interest of the public. With this, two-wheeler drivers will soon get into the habit of wearing helmets and road accidents will decrease.
Public awareness and safety pledge
The government’s information and public relations department will also be active in spreading awareness in this campaign. People can avoid road accidents by joining this campaign and making it a habit to wear helmets.
