The central government has asked the state government to prepare a new and updated Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) for these cities and submit it soon.
According to LiveHindustan, following Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s request to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for a metro rail in Ranchi, the state’s Urban Development and Housing Department has promptly issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to prepare a new CMP.
The old plan was prepared almost a decade ago
The Jharkhand government sent a comprehensive mobility plan to the central government, prepared nearly 10 years ago, but the central government deemed it inadequate for current and future needs. Sunil Kumar, Principal Secretary of the Urban Development Department, stated that a comprehensive and detailed new plan will be submitted to the central government within one and a half to two months. Experts say that a comprehensive mobility plan is the cornerstone of any metro project.
This involves an in-depth analysis of a city’s traffic patterns, public transport conditions, congestion, road networks, and environmental impacts. Based on this, metro routes, economic viability, and operation strategies are determined.
