Madhya Pradesh New Liquor Policy: In the direction of discouraging liquor consumption in Madhya Pradesh, taking a historic decision on Sunday, the state government approved the new excise policy. Under this, all the liquor shops and ‘shop bars’ operating in the state will be closed. The state cabinet has approved the proposal to end the facility of drinking liquor at the ‘shop bar’ and to sell only liquor at the liquor shop. The announcement comes amid senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Uma Bharti’s demand for a ‘controlled liquor policy’ in Madhya Pradesh.
Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Dr. Narottam Mishra while giving information about the important decisions taken in the cabinet meeting told the journalists that today the cabinet has taken a historic decision in the direction of discouraging the consumption of liquor in the state. All the liquor shops and shop bars in the state are being closed. No yard will now operate in the state
He said that only liquor will be sold at the liquor shop. The facility of drinking liquor while sitting at liquor shops will also be closed in the state. The minister said that the distance of liquor shops from educational and religious institutions has also been increased from 50 meters to 100 meters. Along with this, strictness will also be increased on those who drive after drinking alcohol.
Mishra said that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is working to discourage drinking. That’s why no new liquor shops have been opened in the state since 2010, on the contrary, they have been closed.

He further said that even during the Narmada Seva Yatra, 64 liquor shops in Madhya Pradesh were closed by the Chief Minister (Shivraj Singh Chouhan). The new excise policy that has come is bound to discourage the consumption of alcohol. Uma Bharti, who started her campaign with a demand for complete prohibition, is now seeking to regularize the sale in the state, where assembly elections are due by the end of the year.
