New flight rules: What you need to know before entering airports and travelling via flight

The Ministry of Civil Aviation released a set of guidelines on Thursday for domestic flight travel, which include mandatory thermal screening before entering the airport terminals, wearing face masks during the entire flight journey and displaying “green” status on the Aarogya Setu app.



To avoid passengers touching screens, persons travelling will have to web check-in at home and obtain a boarding pass before arriving at the airport.

Here’s a list of the implemented rules to be followed for domestic :

Passengers must web check-in and print out their boarding pass prior to reaching the airport.



All passengers must be at the airport at least two hours prior to departure. They have also been advised to use taxis and authorised transportation that has been disinfected to prevent further spread of the virus.

The protective gear to be worn includes face masks and gloves. In addition, they must have hard copies of their documents and a “green status” on the Aarogya Setu app which will permit them to travel.

There will be thermal screening points at entry and exit points.
Passengers showing coronavirus symptoms will not be allowed to enter the terminal. Even if the Aarogya Setu app shows “red status”, the person will not be allowed to proceed further.



Children under the age of 14 need not install Aarogya Setu app. All passengers will have to fill in a self-declaration form.

After the initial travel details have been confirmed and verified, the passengers will allowed inside and directed to the baggage drop counter. They must show the PNR code to the staff through a glass shield to prevent any contact.

Staff will print baggage tags and attach it to santised bags/ luggage, which will then be loaded. Printed receipts have been replaced by electronic receipts sent via SMS to the passenger.



Security screening will take place with minimum touching to reduce physical contact between security personnel and passengers.

Sanitation and social distancing will be ensured at the airport eateries and retail outlets. Airlines will provide a safety kit – three-layered masks, face shields and sanitisers – to prevent spread of coronavirus.
