NEET, JEE Main 2020: NTA releases detailed safety plan for exams – All you need to know

National Testing Agency, NTA has released the detailed Safety plans on the official website nta.ac.in. The advisory would aid in the safe conduct of JEE Main and NEET UG 2020 Exams- Take a look inside




National Testing Agency would be conducting NEET-UG and JEE Main 2020 on the scheduled dates. The Union Government informed that no exams would be postponed and Joint Entrance Examination, JEE Main would be conducted between September 1-6 and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, NEET UG would be conducted on September 13, 2020. NTA has released a detailed safety plan for exams being conducted. Take a look below.




NTA has also drawn a comprehensive plan and issued an advisory for conducting the NEET exams 2020. It had earlier issued SOPs for JEE Main exam as well. This advisory has been devised based on various instructions, guidelines and orders issued in regard to the pandemic. The plan would help NTA conduct large scale exams such as JEE Main and NEET with the diligence required to ensure the safety of all candidates appearing in these exams.

NEET, JEE Main 2020: Why is the advisory needed?

  1. To ensure a safe and secure environment throughout the exam process with touch-free processes used at the time of requirement
  2. To maintain social distancing measures following the guidelines provided by the Government of India
  3. To integrate measures with existing processes/ controls and aligned with respect to the actions taken by all stakeholders/functionaries towards safe conduct of exams




NEET, JEE Main 2020: Standard Operating Procedure, Safety Plan details

The process to be followed and the deliberations of NTA formulating guidelines for examination days have been provided by the Agency. The exam day would be categorised into three stages and various activities are attached to each of the stages.

Pre Exam control Measure:




  1. In this stage, NTA ensured that allocation of the candidate at examination centres was done leaving a scope of social distancing. Also, such seat plans have been devised that ensure candidates safety.
  2. Admit cards are to be issued with staggered time slots, list of items permitted in the exam rooms, and a hyperlink to the centre’s location to avoid last-minute hassles for students.
  3. Also, the staff would be trained for the same. A briefing would be offered by the City Coordinator on September 12 to all invigilators on procedures to be followed on the 13th.
  4. Inventory management is also being focused upon in the exams. Every exam centre is supposed to have extra gloves, masks, sanitizers, spray bottles etc for effective usage by the staff and candidates.



  5. The day would begin with complete sanitization of all the centres and proper placement fo masks ad sanitizers everywhere across the centres. The day would end with complete disposal of all the used products and again sanitization of the centres have to be carried out.

Exam Conduct Controls:

  1. During the exams, the candidates would be authenticated, complete videography would be done at the centres and no thumb impression would be taken from the applicants.
  2. 50% of the Invigilators will be assigned to work inside the rooms and the rest will monitor the entry outside the gate and Registration room until the last candidate has taken their place inside




Post Exam Controls:

  1. The candidates would be allowed to leave the examination centres one at a time to ensure complete social distancing.
  2. The gloves and the masks are to be disposed of in a pedal push covered dustbin outside the exam hall.
  3. There has to be no crowd anywhere which must be ensured through ropes at proper places. Lastly, no refreshments would be provided to the invigilators and they need to bring their own eatables.
  4. Records of all exam functionaries would also be maintained in the system for future reference and traceability by NTA. Check out the complete guidelines here.

On August 21, 2020, Amit Khare, Secretary, Ministry of Education confirmed that the entrance exams cannot be postponed. Referring to the Supreme Court order, he informed that the SC was very clear in its order and the examinations would be conducted on schedules decided. National Testing Agency, NTA has also released a clarification confirming the same, stating that the examination cannot be postponed.
