On the lines of Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Rapid Rail, now the process of building a high-speed rapid rail corridor between Lucknow and Kanpur has intensified. The State Housing Department has directed Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) and Unnao-Shuklaganj Development Authority to prepare a detailed project report (DPR). The DPR will assess how financially viable this project is. If the rapid rail runs between these two big cities of UP, the travel time will be reduced from two hours to only 50 minutes. This step is being considered a major initiative towards fast, accessible and safe transport system in Uttar Pradesh.
The central government will provide funds for the Lucknow-Kanpur Rapid Rail project, but the further process will start only after getting in-principle approval from the state government. After getting the approval, a private consultancy firm will be appointed, which will prepare the DPR through the tender process. According to the initial outline of the Rapid Rail Corridor, its total length will be 67 kilometers. It will start from Naya Ganj area of Kanpur and go till Amausi in Lucknow. Both these places have been chosen because both of them are already connected to the metro network.
DPR will tell you how much the cost will be
According to a Times of India report, officials say that the total cost of the Lucknow-Kanpur Rapid Rail project, daily passenger figures, revenue prospects and land acquisition needs can be accurately assessed only after the DPR is prepared. Along with this, it will also be decided how much land will have to be acquired and how much compensation will be given for it. If this project is implemented, it will not only provide a fast and reliable mode of transport between Lucknow and Kanpur, but will also promote regional development and employment opportunities.
Expressway is being built between Lucknow-Kanpur
A 63 km long six lane Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway is also being built between Lucknow and Kanpur. This expressway will go to Azad Marg of Kanpur via Bani, Kantha, Amarsas. The opening of the expressway will reduce travel time considerably.
