The total number of people working in UK’s telecom giant BT Group is around 1,30,000. In relation to the layoffs, the telecom company said on Thursday that its total workforce would be between 75,000 and 90,000 by 2028-2030.

Britain’s largest broadband and mobile provider company BT Group (BT Group) has prepared a list of 55,000 employees, not one or two thousand. Decision in view of cost reduction

According to CNN report, BT Group has prepared a plan to reduce its workforce in the next five to seven years. Under this, there is a preparation to cut 55,000 jobs. The company has taken this decision to cut costs and make greater use of technology including artificial intelligence (AI) to simplify its business. The UK telecom company said on Thursday that its total workforce would be between 75,000 and 90,000 by 2028-2030.

So many people work in BT Group

At present, the total number of people working in BT Group is around 1,30,000. The company’s CEO Philip Johnson has issued a statement in this regard saying that the way we work and simplify our structure. He said that by the end of 2029, BT Group will rely on a much smaller workforce and a much lower cost base. According to Johnson, we were navigating an extraordinary macro-economic backdrop.

The company said a big deal about the retrenchment,

the company is working on building a national fiber network and it is also rolling out high-speed 5G mobile services. On behalf of BT Group, it was said that once the fiber-optic broadband and 5G mobile network is fully operational, the company will not need more employees to maintain it. CEO Philip Johnson said that the new BT Group will be a small business with a bright future. Along with this, the telecom company said that its net profit increased by 50 percent to 1.9 billion GBP (about Rs 19,816 crore) from its financial year to March.

Even as BT Group’s net profit rose, its pre-tax profit fell nearly 12 per cent to GBP 1.7 billion (roughly Rs 17,476 crore) from the year-ago period, while revenue fell one per cent. 20.7 billion GBP (about Rs 2,12,736 crore) remains.

Vodafone has also announced big retrenchment

Let us tell here that this is not the first company in Britain, which has announced big retrenchment in its workforce. In the past, British based telecom company Vodafone has also announced a major reduction in its workforce. In India, this company is working with Aditya Birla Group.

It has been said on behalf of the company that it will lay off 11,000 employees and this process of retrenchment will be completed in the next three years. Regarding the layoff plan in Vodafone, according to CEO Della Valle, the company’s performance has not been good, change is necessary in Vodafone for continuous good performance.
