Laxman was played by actor Sunil Lahiri in Ramanand Sagar’s ‘Ramayana’. After the Ramayana, Sunil became so famous that people started calling him in real life as Laxman. Not only this, when he used to go somewhere in the 80s, people started worshiping him. Apart from ‘Ramayan’, Sunil has also worked in many serials and films.

Sunil Lahiri had done TV shows’ Vikram Betal ‘and’ Grandparents’ stories’ with Ramanand Sagar. One day he came to know about ‘Ramayana’ and gave an audition. He was previously selected for the role of Shatrughan. Actor Shashi Puri was finalized for Laxman. For some reason, when Shashi Puri refused to play, Sunil Lahiri got the role of Laxman.

Sunil Lahiri was born in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Later his family moved to Mumbai. He did his graduation from Mumbai. Sunil started his career with the film ‘Naxalite’ in the year 1980. The film also featured veteran actress Smita Patil.

Apart from this, Sunil also worked in the films ‘Phir Aai Barsaat’ and ‘Bahar Ke Manzil’. After airing ‘Ramayana’ in 1987, Sunil acted in several serials. In an interview, Sunil said that after big work, there are big responsibilities too. After doing such a famous serial, when the other work was done, it did not follow that standard.

‘I did three-four films and one-two serials. Serialized for Asha Parekh in 2005, but I did not enjoy it. After that I thought that I would do the same thing that I would get satisfaction after doing. In the Ramayana, we have seen the peak, that kind of work cannot be found again, but it should seem that you are working at a level.
