Heavy overnight rains during Sharadiya Navratri in Kolkata, West Bengal, severely affected the city. Several areas of Kolkata were waterlogged, severely disrupting metro and rail services. On Tuesday, the Kolkata Metro Railway suspended operations between several stations to ensure passenger safety due to the heavy rain. Meanwhile, the Eastern Railway cancelled or rescheduled several trains. According to reports, metro services from Shahid Khudiram to Maiden Station have been completely suspended due to heavy waterlogging in the central section between Mahanayak Uttam Kumar and Rabindra Sarovar stations. Truncated services are operating from Dakshineswar to Maiden Station.

The Hazarduari Express Kolkata (train number 13113) and Sealdah-Jangipur Express (train number 13177) have also been cancelled. Some trains have also been rescheduled, including the Howrah-New Jalpaiguri Vande Bharat Express, the Howrah-Gaya Vande Bharat Express, and the Howrah-Jamalpur Vande Bharat Express. Meanwhile, a 60-year-old man in Kolkata died from electrocution due to heavy rains. The incident occurred in the Iqbalpur police station area, where rainwater was flooding the roads.

Police received information at around 5:15 a.m. on Tuesday that a man named Jitendra Singh had been electrocuted on Hussain Shah Road (Iqbalpur police station area). He was immediately rushed to SSKM Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Jasram Meena, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Sealdah, stated that trains on the Sealdah section are delayed due to heavy rain. Passengers have been urged to use alternative transportation and check the railway’s official website or app for updates.
