ITR verification date extended: Big relief to taxpayers! Now verification can be done by February 2022, know how to verify

New Delhi. Taxpayers who have not yet e-verified their income tax returns for the financial year 2019-20 can complete the verification process by February 28, 2022. The Income Tax Department has extended the deadline for e-verified, giving relief to the taxpayers.


As per the law, for filing Income Tax Return (ITR) electronically without digital signature, the code sent through Aadhaar OTP, Net-banking, Demat account, already valid Verification has to be done from the bank account or ATM done. This verification is required to be done within 120 days of filing the income tax return. Apart from this, let us also tell you that the last date for filing ITR for the financial year 2020-21 is December 31. Filing after this will attract a penalty.

Copy can also be sent physically


Apart from this, Income Taxpayers can also verify by sending a physical copy of ITR to the Centralized Processes Center (CPC) office in Bangalore. If the process of verification is not completed, it is assumed that the return has not been filed.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), in a circular issued on December 28, has said that a large number of electronically filed ITRs for the assessment year 2020-21 are still pending with the Income Tax Department as valid ITR-V for them. The receipt has not been received or the e-verification has not been done by the taxpayers.
