If you have also filed the Income Tax Return (ITR) on time but you have not received the refund yet, then you must be facing problems. The last date to file ITR was 31 July 2023.

According to Income Tax Department data, till July 31, more than 6 crore taxpayers had filed returns. Many of these people have received their refund but there are many people who are still waiting for their refund.

Check your refund status

If it has been a long time since you filed ITR but you have not received the return yet, then you should check the status of your refund.

According to media reports, the Income Tax Department is busy giving ITR refunds to the remaining people. However, if your refund status is still in the filing process, it may take some more time. Apart from this, if you have filed a revised return , then in this situation also you may have to wait longer.

How much time does the refund take?

Generally, if you have filed your ITR correctly then the Income Tax Department gives you the refund within four weeks i.e. one month. But if you have made some mistake in ITR then there may be a delay in receiving the refund.

Keep these things in mind

  • If there is a delay in getting your refund, then first of all check your refund status.
  • If you have filed the return and have not done e-verification then your refund will not be processed, hence it is mandatory for you to get e-verification done to get the refund.
  • After this, you should check the e-mail ID which you had given while filing ITR, because sometimes the Income Tax Department may e-mail you to give some confirmation related to the refund.
  • Apart from this, you must check whether the account number details given by you to get the refund are correct or not. If the bank details are not correct then the refund will not be given.
  • Also check whether the name entered in the bank account matches with your PAN card and Aadhar card.
