ITR File Last Date: Let us tell you that till now no indication has been received from the Income Tax Department on extending the last date. However, crores of people of the country are making a strong demand to extend the last date for filing income tax returns.



New Delhi. If you have not filed your Income Tax Return yet, then settle it today. Because now only two days are left for the last date of filing income tax return. Let us tell you that the last date for filing income tax return in the financial year 2022 is 31 July. Today is July 29, according to this, only 2 days are left for the deadline for filing ITR to end.

There is a demand to extend the last date

Let us tell you that till now no indication has been received from the Income Tax Department on extending the last date. However, crores of people of the country are making a strong demand to extend the last date for filing income tax returns. If we consider the basis of different reports, so far very few people have filed their ITR. Till July 26, over 3.4 crore people had filed their ITRs.
But still crores of people are yet to file their ITR. At the last minute, if many people fill their ITR together, then there is a possibility of the site going down. Due to which the demand to pursue ITR from the Income Tax Department seems to be gaining momentum.

Late fee to be paid if ITR is not filed

Let us tell you that if you have not filed your ITR by July 31, then you may have to pay a late fee to file it later. According to media reports, a fine ranging from Rs 1 thousand to Rs 5 thousand can be imposed under section 234F of the Income Tax Act 1961 for filing ITR after July 31. Let us tell you that a campaign is also being run in this regard on the social media platform Twitter. Income tax payers are citing technical difficulties in filing ITR.

Understand Income Tax Return

Before filing ITR, it is very important to know that there are two types of ITR. First ITR 1 and second ITR 4. ITR-1 is filed by individuals whose income is up to Rs 50 lakh which includes salary/pension, a house property, income from other sources, etc. ITR-4 is filed by a person if he is eligible to declare profits and gains from business and profession on presumptive basis under section 44AD, 44ADA or 44AE.

How to file income tax return online

  • Firstly visit www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal and login with User ID and Password. If login id and password is not there then create id first. PAN card number is used as ID.
  • After this click on the option of e-File and then click on the Income Tax Return link.
  • Now you will see that your PAN number has already been entered.
  • Now on this page you have to select Assessment Year, ITR Form Number, Filing Type as
  • Original/ Revised Return. Finally click on Continue.
  • After this you will be asked for some important information, fill them.
  • Now the Tax Paid and Verification page will open where you have to select the option according to you.
  • Now check the form by preview and then click on submit.
  • OTP will be sent to your phone number for e-verification and you will be done.
